No, really – let’s try to make it a happy 2017 despite it all.
I started the year off with a beast of a cold that knocked the wind out of my sails, but I’m feeling better and I think everything’s going to be okay. How are you?
We’re on a break from festivals at the moment for June Falling Down, but will be back at it in the spring (keep an eye out for upcoming announcements).
Otherwise, I have a million goals that I’m not going to tell you about other than hiking. I wanna do a lot more hiking in 2017. I spent a lot of the past couple years inside working on June and NO MORE. I’m getting out.
Mostly, I am writing the new script these days. This month I’m even logging pages, a thing I never do. But if I don’t make this like a real job I’ll never finish this thing. That’s been one of my biggest struggles these past years – being my own boss. Because I could work every second of my life on the film stuff, the writing stuff, the acting stuff, and still never be close to feeling like I’ve done enough.
I’m working on it.
Anyway, with writing, it seems like my process is compilation and research and ideas and feelings first (my Word doc is 20 single spaced pages), then outline and color coded notecards (see above photo) and then finally opening Final Draft and writing a really terrible script full of questions I write to myself (“Does she talk to her roommates 1st??”) and notes (signaled with ******!!!!! to get my own attention). I consistently look at the “dream” document and also futz around on the Pinterest board I created for the movie.
Here’s a bit of the board, which is private by the way and will remain so for a very long time.
So that’s where I’m at! Making a new movie with a candle lit. Oh and a million other things.
Oh, and I have a Tumblr! If you’re interested in what I’m paying attention to art-wise, essay-wise, movie-wise, check out RebeccaDreamWeaver. Nothing fancy, just stuff I’m interested in that doesn’t warrant a blog post.
And I thought I might add this to posts from here on out. We’ll see.
Transparent season 3
The Night Manager
La La Land (okay, I’m gonna go see this once this blog is done)
Hell or High Water
While You Were Sleeping (w/ my Grandma on Christmas Eve)
White Christmas (w/my Grandma on Christmas)
The Office (American, season 3, while I was sick. So comforting.)
And here’s a cactus garden in Joshua Tree where I spent my birthday in December! More scenes like this in 2017!
